After Pilate condemns Jesus to die he is tortured. Torture in any circumstance is not a pleasant topic to look at. It is made even worse when we think about our Lord being treated in this way. Who were these people and why would they torture an innocent man? The terrible reality is that these were people much like us. Evil in this world is best fought by those who recognize the evil that lurks within them. The depth of Jesus’ sacrifice is made clear in these verses.
