Jacob’s twin brother Esau wants to kill him after Jacob’s trickery and treachery is stealing Esau’s birthright and blessing. So Jacob flees to his ancestral home where he falls in love. But the Bible is not Disney and there was “no happily ever after.” Jacob’s new family is even more dysfunctional than his family of origin. Once again, we see God’s presence, and love shine through the messiness of life.
