Forgiveness has two parts and both are difficult. The first step is to genuinely repent, that is, to sincerely ask for forgiveness. This is difficult because it is human nature to defend or rationalize our actions. How do we check that impulse and honestly assess our actions and attitudes? The second step is to forgive others. This is an even more difficult task. Some sins do not feel forgivable. What do we do with those? While the road of forgiveness is challenging and even painful it is also life giving.
