God's Casa

2010-2011 Theme

As we begin a new school year, we also begin with a new family ministry theme.  As you know our tagline for Christ UMC is “reaching out to all God’s people.”  Our goal is to help our children and families explore this through the theme of God’s Casa!  God’s house is a large one, encompassing so many people groups and cultures.  Over the summer, our children have been learning about a 13 year old girl in Guatemala named Debora that we are helping to send to school this next year.  Our confirmands will be exploring the story of God and God’s people.  Our families will attempt to make God a part of the natural everyday rhythms of life—in essence, making mi casa es la casa de dios (my house is the house of God).

Family Times

 Family Faith Lab

The ancient book of Deuteronomy creates a daily cycle by which your entire family can engage in faith conversations.  Our family faith lab for Fall 2010 is called Family Times and embraces this natural rhythm found in Deuteronomy.  Here are the four actions of this cycle:

MEAL TIME – When You Sit At Home
Focused discussion as a teacher to establish core values

DRIVE TIME – When You Walk Along The Road
Informal dialogue as a friend to help your child interpret life

BED TIME – When You Lie Down
Intimate conversation as a counselor to listen to your child

MORNING TIME – When You Get Up
Encouraging words as a coach to give value and instill purpose

Training for the Family Times will be held during our Family Connection events.

Acolytes Needed

Worship Involvement

Is your child in 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade?  If so, your child may serve as an acolyte.  What is an acolyte?  An acolyte is a person who brings the flame and light of Christ into the worship service and lights the candles on the altar.  At the end of the worship service, they come to extinguish these flames and carry the light back out into the world with the congregation following.  It is a wonderful way for children to participate in worship and learn about faith.

Family Connections Dinners

September 29

A few years back, parents and children would gather at CUMC once a month to share a meal and have fun together called Mid-Month Meal.  On Wednesday, September 29th we will meet at CUMC for a small dinner and to play Bingo.  Not only is this a great event for families, but we want to bring together new families to CUMC with established families.  Please be sure to put this on your calendars!

Room Renovation

Appreciation & Thanks!

Have you been in the CAVE lately?  Have you walked into the Movie Station Sunday School room since the end of June?  Our very own Brad Randall completed his Eagle Scout project this summer here at CUMC.  He organized a team to paint, clean, organize, and build some shelving for these two rooms in CUMC’s basement.  The rooms look fabulous!  Please take a look at the rooms and give a big thanks to Brad Randall for all of his hard work.
